Region 6 - Hybridizer Awards

Region 6 has two awards voted for by those in attendance at the Regional Meeting for seedlings seen in the tour gardens, the Annie T. Giles Award and the Edna Lankart Award (Region 6 Newsletter, Summer, 1976). In addition, a motion was made and passed that beginning in 1984, no awards will be presented unless there are at least two clumps in bloom in each category (Region 6 Newsletter, Summer, 1983).

Edna Lankart Award

Presented for the best seedling by a Region 6 hybridizer who is not a member of the host club. This traveling award was a metal sculpture of the daylily Hemerocallis 'Little Zinger', which was registered by Edna Lankart. The metal sculpture was retired in 1999 and was placed
in the main hallway in the Tyler Rose Center Building, Tyler, Texas. The metal sculpture was replaced by a medallion to be awarded to the winner each year.

Annie T. Giles Award

Presented for the best seedling hybridized by a member of the host club. The original award was a plate hand painted by Annie T. Giles. The plate award was retired in 1993 and was presented to Nell Shimek, winner of that year's Annie T. Giles Award. The plate was replaced by a medallion to be awarded to the winner each year.
